Being called “Josephine” was just a nickname for Jody Polk in college…she always thought it would be the perfect name for a store…but never thought that her dream of opening her own boutique would ever become a reality…
After graduation from Georgia Southern University in May 2000 with a fashion merchandising degree, Jody Polk completed an internship with Tommy Hilfiger USA in Atlanta and was hired as a Sales Representative for Southeast Georgia. With a dream of opening her own boutique one day, she continued working for Tommy Hilfiger until March 2005. Wishing to become a mother very soon, Jody felt that opening her own business would give her the freedom to be with her family and do something she loved at the same time…She took this as her opportunity to pursue opening her own store…although other names were considered…nothing sounded as fitting as Josephine’s.
Born and raised in Macon, Jody’s love of clothing, shops, and design only came naturally to her ~ with a mother, grandmother and several aunts who could sew almost anything…she grew to love things that were hand made and beautiful to those who added their personal touch to them. Capitalizing on this passion acquired from her family members, her love of embroidery, and the desire to generate beautiful additions to gifts, Jody made the decision to open Josephines. Specializing in monogramming and embroidery, Josephine’s would offer items for the home, linens, baby, and gifts.
Once Jody and her husband Rett relocated to Statesboro, she immediately chose downtown Statesboro as her top choice for the location of the boutique. The downtown area was about to evolve and Jody wanted to be a part of helping renovate the area in hopes of making the downtown area a shopping destination. After several months of planning, renovations began on the Townview building located at 36 West Main Street. Jody opened the doors to Josephine’s on November 25, 2005. She is so thankful to her family and close friends, and more importantly the citizens of Statesboro and the surrounding communites for their generous support and business in making Josephine’s possible!
